It’s year two at Great Lakes Academy! To kick off the school year, we held our first Back-to-School Fundraiser on Thursday, September 10 at Mars Gallery. It was a special evening of great company, conversation, laughter and purpose.
Looking at the crowd, the fundraiser attracted a diverse mix of people, from family, GLA staff, past donors and people who had never been to a GLA event before. As guests walked through the venue, they sipped on a drink and enjoyed the beautiful artwork adorned on the gallery walls.
Attendees also got to look at some of our exciting raffle and silent auction items. Organizations and companies all across America stepped up to donate items such as wine from Napa Valley, gifts cards to some of the best restaurants in Chicago, free stays at hotels, tickets to see the Bulls and so much more.
With a tap of the microphone, Ms. Myers and the GLA Board got the night rolling by announcing raffle and silent auction winners.
Our goal for the evening was to raise $10,000 to create a lending library for our scholars. One of the greatest joys in life is opening a book and escaping into another world. The evening was about more than just raising money; it was about giving our scholars an education they could be proud of.
Thanks to the efforts of all the attendees and supporters, we raised nearly $20,000 for our library!
We want to give a huge shout out to everyone who made our evening so spectacular. Your dedication to the GLA mission means everything to our staff and scholars.
Stay tuned for an update on the creation of our lending library!
