Moving On Up

Tuesday marked an important and heartfelt celebration for the Great Lakes Academy family. After a year of hard work and incredible academic achievement, scholars got to commemorate a job well done with our first ever Moving Up Ceremony.

Throughout the morning, parents poured into our school with cameras and family members right alongside them. In no time, our cafenasium was filled corner to corner with enthusiastic families eager to capture this distinctive moment in their children’s lives.

We started the ceremony with classrooms showing off their college cheers. Throughout the event, scholars got to demonstrate all the different cheers they learned throughout the year, like the Rainbow, Fruit Ninja and Trucker cheers. Everyone had a good laugh seeing how our fiercely positive culture works its way into our academically rigorous day.

Our first Moving Up Ceremony was put together by the families for the families. It was such a meaningful moment for the staff and parents to come together to support our scholars on the first leg of their lifelong journeys toward college and career success.

“I think families were able to celebrate all the hard work they put in to help their children achieve success,” said Northwestern’s Master Teacher, Tyler Deaton. “It was incredible being able to celebrate all of our scholars’ hard work with their families.”

And celebrate they did. As teachers called each scholar’s name, family members let out cheers and encouraging words. Scholars could feel the energy in the room and got equally excited walking across the stage to shake Ms. Myers’ hand.

Congratulations, scholars! You deserve all the praise and success you earned this year. Your teachers and the staff at Great Lakes look forward to seeing your bright faces next year. Keep working hard in the summer and don’t lose that momentum!
