Kicking off the New Year

The New Year has certainly been busy for everyone here at Great Lakes Academy! This past weekend, we were jam-packed with celebrations and enrollment events.

On Friday, our GLA Power Parents planned a special, school-wide Winter Fest celebration. Scholars walked into a cafenasium that parents and staff transformed into a winter wonderland. With student artwork adorning columns and smiling parent volunteers ready for a fun-filled afternoon, our scholars could barely contain their excitement!

For almost two hours, scholars rotated through five different stations: making snowflakes, sight word bingo, snowball toss/dance party, winter gear competition and cookie decorating.

“It was awesome,” says kindergartner, Jayana. “It was awesome because we had so much fun. Decorating cookies was fun, making snowflakes was really fun. We just had fun!”

It’s easy to see why scholars had such a good time; check out the video from the winter gear competition station! Mixing in some friendly competition, teams had to put on and take off winter clothing the fastest in order to win.

With so much to do, the afternoon breezed by until dismissal. However, the busy work didn't end there!

The next day, we welcomed prospective families to our very first Open House event. Throughout the afternoon, curious families came into our school, eager to find out more about what it’s like to be a GLA scholar. They got to talk to teachers, see the classrooms, and meet GLA founding families and their scholars. The event was a success, with every single family completing an application for our lottery!

The staff at GLA cannot thank our founding families enough for coming out on Friday and Saturday to support the school. Their dedication and unwavering support in GLA’s mission pushes us to do better each and every day!
